The Dundee Electronic Music Society (DEMS), was born after a conversation between me and a few friends who share a love for electronic music and pushing boundaries.

Bored of the nightlife in Dundee, we made it our mission to create a student society worthy of competing with big name promoters and club nights to put on the best DJ events in the city.

Over the course of my two years as President of the society, we achieved what we’d set out to do. We scooped up accolades including the Best New Society Award, Event Of The Year Award x2, and a feature in Resident Advisor’s worldwide Top Ten April 2023 Festivals article for our one-of-a-kind charity festival DEMSFEST, which raised £10,000 for The Brain Tumour Charity.

It was during this period that I discovered a deep love for marketing. Although my course taught me theories, how to write an essay, and conduct market research, I learnt how to sell a product, how to build a community, and how to turn a concept into reality with DEMS.

My role was to steer the ship. Motivate the team. And to redefine the meaning of a student society.

I was responsible for a team of 15 people. We had events coordinators, social media secretaries, and creative directors, all working in unison under my direction to deliver sold-out events, collaborations with local artists and businesses, and a platform to meet friends and share ideas.
